Patriarchate to respond to leak of personal data files on clerics ‘in a long letter’ in two days

Patriarch’s secretary Mikael Botkoveli says that the patriarchate will respond to the recent leak of personal data files on clerics in a long letter in two days.

He also said that the patriarchate ‘is waiting for clear explanations from the government’ on the issue.

Georgian media outlets received a link to up to 30,000 personal data files on Monday which contained ‘compromising materials’ on clerics and politicians.

An unidentified sender claimed that the files have been collected via illegal surveillance under the Georgian Dream government and were ‘leaked’ from the country’s State Security Service.

The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
