One detained at memorial of heroes in Tbilisi on the day when Sokhumi fell 28 years ago

Head of organisation IDPs for IDPs Irakli Torua has been detained for disobedience to police earlier today at the memorial of fallen heroes in central Tbilisi, on the day when Tbilisi lost control of its autonomous Abkhazia region 28 years ago.

The organisation had plans to voice its demands, on the resignation of the leadership of the Abkhaz Autonomous Republic Government (under the Georgian government) for ‘continued indifference to IDPs’ problems,’ as soon as Georgian PM Irakkli Garibashvili arrived at the site.

Georgian officials are bringing wreaths to the memorial today to commemorate the tragic day.

More than 250,000 locals became internally displaced following the falling of Sokhumi, the main city of Abkhazia.
