Health minister says coronavirus booster dose allowed for certain groups

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze says that individuals over 50, people with chronic diseases and the ones whose professions carry risks will be able to receive the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine in Georgia six months after getting the second shot.

Georgia has also made adults between 12-16 with chronic diseases eligible to vaccination.

1,853,296 individuals have been vaccinated in the 3.7 million country since March 2021, of which 856,609 have been completely vaccinated.

Pfizer, Sinovanc, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines are available in Georgia as of now.

However, Georgian health officials say that the country will not buy the British AstraZeneca vaccine due to a low demand for it.

Georgia has reported 2,661 new cases of coronavirus, 1,274 recoveries and 30 deaths in the past 24 hours.
