US Embassy congratulates Georgia on national flag day

The US Embassy to Georgia has congratulated Georgia on the national flag day.

“Congratulations on Georgian Flag Day! 2021 was a significant year for the history of your beautiful flag, which, thanks to the recent discovery of a copper coin can now be traced back to King Davit Aghmashenebeli in the 12th century.

“This symbolism proves once again that Georgia has been part of the European family of nations for many centuries,” said the embassy.

The day has been marked in Georgia since January 2012.

The current national flag was approved by the state legislature on January 14, 2004, shortly after the Rose Revolution. The flag was previously used by the Georgian patriotic movement following the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
