Lawyer says Saakashvili’s neurological condition ‘severe’

Lawyer of imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, former official under the United National Movement government and current head of the opposition-minded Mtavari TV channel Nika Gvaramia claims that the neurological status of the ex-president is ‘severe’ and if not addressed the problem may become irreversible.

Gvaramia says that an independent group of health experts must evaluate Saakashvili’s condition.

Saakashvili was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1 after eight years in political exile.

Currently he holds Ukrainian citizenship.

The third president was convicted in Georgia in absentia in 2018 for abuse of power and was sentenced to six years in prison.

He has also been charged with five other offenses.

Saakashvili, who was on hunger strike for 50 days, says that he is a political prisoner.
