US warns Russia of ‘united, swift and severe response if it attacks Ukraine

US State Secretary Antony Blinken has warned his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov of a "united, swift and severe" response if Russia attacks Ukraine during a recent meeting in Geneva.

About 100,000 Russian troops are deployed near Ukraine as of now, making a threat for repeated violence.

The US is expected to put its position in writing next week, after which further discussions will be held, BBC has reported.

Russia has denied once again that it is planning an attack. It is demanding NATO to never enlarge to the Eastern Europe and break its promise given to Georgia and Ukraine on future membership.

Russia says that the enlargement poses threat to its security.
