State Inspector files suit to constitutional court

State Inspector Londa Toloraia has filed a lawsuit to the constitutional court against the decision of the state legislature on the abolishment of the agency as it is now and replacing it with two agencies.

The State Inspector’s Service was created in 2018 to investigate alleged offenses committed by law enforcement officers.

Georgian Dream MPs initiated a bill earlier this year which offered the abolishment of the agency as it is now and replacing it with two agencies - one which would look into alleged offenses and another for the protection of personal data.

Toloraia says that the agency has been punished for its ‘unbiased decisions and reports,’ including those made in terms of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili.
