Gori Military Hospital explains why videos related to ex-pres Saakashvili were deleted

Gori Military Hospital has released an official statement explaining why the videos depicting the presence of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili were deleted.

Saakashvili claims that he is a victim of degrading and inhuman treatment in Georgian prison, while the opposition says that the videos were deliberately deleted.

According to the official statement of the military hospital, the cameras were installed only during Saakashvili's stay there due to the high public interest, but after his transfer to Rustavi prison, there was no obligation to keep the footage.

They stated that a letter from the State Inspector's Service requesting the archiving of the videos was received on December 31, when the videos were already deleted.

The former president was transferred to Gori military hospital in late November to receive treatment after his 50-day hunger strike, then he was returned to Rustavi prison.

Saakashvili was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, 2021 after eight years in political exile.

He says he returned to help the opposition remove the Georgian Dream government from power.
