Imprisoned former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili claims that along with the currently occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions, Russia has plans to grab Truso Gorge in central Georgia and part of Racha in western Georgia.

In his Facebook post released today, Saakashvili accused the current state leadership of an anti-state policy ‘which is leaving Georgia without friends and allies and allows Russia to act freely.’

“The Georgian government is practically in a state of cold war with Ukraine, has disappeared from the radar of the West and is calmly watching how the enemy is taking away central Georgia,” Saakashvili said.

He stated that Russia is bringing thousands of people by buses to Luhansk prior to holding a referendum there on joining with Russia, responding to the vows of Georgia’s de facto Tskhinvali region that they have plans to hold such a referendum in the coming months.

“I am making this example for those who had stated that it was just a provocative statement (by Tskhinvali) and nothing would happen,” Saakashvili said, noting that the Georgian Dream’s “mild policy” towards Russia could not bring any benefits for the country, just on the contrary.

Saakashvili said that Georgia still has time to make improvements, allegedly referring to his recent calls to the opposition and the public to overthrow the government.

The third president was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in political exile.
