Man stabbing wife in a bus in front of children denied bail

Roin Mebonia, 38, who stabbed his wife in a bus in front of their two underage children in Tbilisi earlier this week was denied bail by Tbilisi City Court on Monday.

The man was charged with murder shortly after the incident in the public transport on May 21.

Mebonia’s lawyer says that the defendant has mental problems.

The prosecutor stated that the victim, Sopho Kvaratskhelia, 31, had at least 10 wounds to the neck.

He also said that based on preliminary reports no dispute took place between the couple prior to the attack, noting that the bus had a surveillance camera and the recording has already been archived to be checked by the law enforcement.
