US President Joe Biden has called out the gun lobby and manufacturers, saying that it was “time to act,” as an 18-year-old killed 19 children and two adults in a Texas elementary school on Tuesday.
“As a nation we have to ask, ‘When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name do we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?,” Biden said.
He stated that “if an 18-year-old can walk into a gun store and buy two assault weapons, it’s just wrong. What in God’s name do you need an assault weapon for except to kill someone? Deer aren’t running through the forests with kevlar vests on, for God’s sake. It’s just sick.”
The gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School - which teaches children aged seven to 10.
The suspect had a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines, investigators said.
The teenager is suspected of shooting his grandmother before the rampage, BBC reported.
Local media report he may have been a high school student in the area.
