Saakashvili’s condition satisfactory, no reasons detected why he lost consciousness- Special Penitentiary Service

The Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia says that the health of imprisoned former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been checked and no medically evidenced reasons were detected which could cause the loss of consciousness, as his lawyer said yesterday.

“The general state of health was assessed as satisfactory, further studies and correction of treatment was not considered as needed,” said the agency on Thursday.

Saakashvili’s lawyer claimed yesterday that the former president’s health deteriorated last night in the clinic of Vivamedi and he lost consciousness.

The former president, who was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in political exile, suggested earlier this week that he was in need of a spinal surgery, noting that he required treatment abroad.
