Former deputy Justice Minister Baramidze: ruling party campaign against George Soros foundation similar to that in Russia

Former Minister of Justice under Georgian Dream (GD) government, Aleksandre Baramidze, has told Front News that the “recent campaign of the GD against Open Society Georgia (George Soros Foundation) is similar to that we have witnessed in Russia for a long time.”

He suggested on Friday that the GD’s “ anti-Western campaign has become disturbing.”

“Irakli Kobakhidze's comic statements are usually legally unfounded,” Baramidze said.

Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream, believes that the Soros Foundation's Tbilisi office has become one of the affiliates of the “War Party”, referring to the United National Movement opposition.

Kobakhidze responded to an article by Vano Chkhikvadze, head of the Open Society Georgia Foundation European Integration Program in which he said that Georgia should be given the status of a potential EU candidate.
