Expulsion of Russians from Zaporizhia nuclear plant “crucial” for European security - Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday called on the international community to “react swiftly” to ensure the expulsion of the Russian militrary from the occupied and bombed nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, claming that Russian troops were bombing the location despite the presence  of serious threats.

The largest in Europe, located in southern Ukraine, the nuclear plant had been occupied by Russian troops since March 4.

For its part, Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February of this year, shifted blames onto Ukraine for bombing the location.

Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, expressed his “deep concerns” over the situation relating to the plant earlier this week.

In a statement released this Thursday, Guterres called for “common sense and reason” not to carry out actions that “could endanger the physical integrity or safety of the nuclear power plant.”
