For the first time in history, Tbilisi is hosting the Eurobasket group stages between  September 1 and 7, alongside the Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany.

The Tbilisi Arena would host the group A games between the national teams of Georgia, Belgium, Turkey, Montenegro, and Spain.

The Georgian Basketball Federation said on Thursday that the tournament would play an  “essential role” for the country’s sports history. ”The Eurobasket is a significant event that will bring millions of fans to the host city and billions of television viewers”, said the Federation.

Georgia's national team is scheduled to play its first match against Belgium's national team later today.

The match will begin at 21:00 Tbilisi time.
