Girchi More Freedom opposition leader accuses part of opposition of “cheating” public

Zurab Japaridze, a chair of the Girchi More Freedom non-parliamentary opposition party, on Tuesday accused the part of the domestic opposition of “cheating the public” through not pushing the idea of snap parliamentary elections.

The opposition leader said that it is an “illusion” to “dream about” a fair court, elections of democratic institutions if the current Georgian Dream authorities stayed in power.

“During these days, I have heard many arguments why we should not ask for early elections. One argument that is heard from both sides is that now we should focus on the fulfillment of the 12-point conditions for the European Union membership candidate status.”

“I do not understand why some of the so-called opposition parties fool themselves and lie to their supporters as if there is a scenario where Ivanishvili remains in power and we have an independent court, decent elections, and independent democratic institutions”, Japaridze called.

In his previous statements, Japaridze called on the opposition to take to the street to change the Government.
