Interior minister arrives in Kutaisi as armed robber still in a bank with hostages

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, on Tuesday arrived in western city of Kutaisi, as an armed robber, demanding two million dollars, a helicopter, a Russian flag and a fishing rod, remains in the Bank of Georgia branch with 12 hostages.

The minister is expected to hold an emergency meeting with the high-ranking officials of the body.

Doctors are also at the scene. However, they have not been allowed so far to provide medical assistance to the hostages in the building, after a live video which showed a woman in need of medical aid.

An armed individual broke into the bank in the afternoon.

In the circulating video footage, a man dressed in a military uniform is seen allegedly armed with an explosive device and threatening to be dangerous if his demands are not met.
