Lack of qualified workforce a serious challenge - economy minister

Georgian economy minister Levan Davitashvili said on Wednesday that Georgia lacked a qualified workforce, stating that it was a “serious challenge” for the country.

After a meeting with a business association in Tbilisi, the minister pledged close cooperation with the private sector to solve the problem.

"The opinion of the business association was that today there is not enough workforce, among them there is no qualified workforce. People should not leave the country, on the contrary, there is a shortage of the workforce on the ground. Skills should be refined and today we were discussing the ways for this”, said the minister, and announced a meeting with the private sector representatives in the near future.

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili said on Tuesday that almost 25,000 individuals had been employed in the government offered employment programme for the socially vulnerable people since March, noting that the authorities would ensure additional funds to invest in vocational education.
