Ivanishvili will be sanctioned - UNM’s Dekanoidze

The founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili, “who is running the country from the backstage”, will definitely face sanctions, an MP of the United National Movement opposition party Khatia Dekanoidze stated on Friday, in response to recent move by Kyv to impose sanctions on the relatives of the former prime minister.

Dekanoidze suggested that Ivanishvili was “well-aware” on why he was not included in the recent list along with his entourage, and stressed that he would be “definitely” added there if he did not refuse to give up “informal ruling” of the country.

“The list signed by President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy is, of course, the result of working with partner states”, Dekanoidze said.

The ruling party MPs have slammed the Kyiv for the “unfriendly move”, stating that Ukraine has become the second country after Russia imposing sanctions on Georgian nationals in a bid “to drag Georgia in its war”.

Ivanishvili's brother Aleksandre Ivanishvili, his wife Ketevan Kharaidze, aunt Ucha Mamatsashvili and her son Tite Mamatsashvili have been blacklisted in Ukraine.

Sanctions will also apply to businessmen Davit Iakobashvili, Aleksandre Japaridze and Giorgi Japaridze.
