Saakashvili’s lawyers plan to demand footage over ex-pres’ presence in prison

At the next trial, we plan to request the footage from the time Mikheil Saakashvili was admitted to prison until now, the lawyer of imprisoned former president Shalva Khachapuridze told Front News on Monday.

He claimed they had earlier raised the same demand, which was not met.

“The footage is very unlikely to be present at today’s trial. However, we have plans to present it at the next trial. He has three to four episodes of loss of consciousness, so American experts are asking for this footage, they need it for their studies and also to clarify other important issues”, said the lawyer.

He stated that the medical-expert opinion being drafted by the domestic Empathy centre over Saaakshvili’s heath was expected this week, then it “should be translated and sent to American experts”.

Khachapuridze said after foreign experts familiarized themselves with the report, the lawyers would be able to look into it and speak about the health issues.

Tbilisi City Court was scheduled today to discuss an illegal border crossing case involving Saakashvili.

The former president was arrested in Tbilisi last October, after eight years in political exile.
