Iranian football team refuses to sing national anthem in protest

The national football team of Iran faces England at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.

Traditionally, the national anthems of the teams participating in the match have been played at the stadium before the start of the game. However, unexpectedly,  the Iranian football players remained silent during their national anthem.

The players collectively decided not to sing their country's national anthem to condemn the current developments in their country.

They supported Iranian protesters in anti-government demonstrations and condemned the execution of Mahsa Amin, a young woman arrested by the morality police for violating hijab-wearing rules.

As it is written, athletes are warned in Iran not to be silent during the national anthem of the country, otherwise they will be cut from the team. However, the Iranian football players have shown courage and supported the protesters in this way.
