EU still hopeful about Georgia - UNM MP

Khatia Dekanoidze, an MP of the United National Movement opposition party, on Tuesday said that the European Union was still “hopeful” about Georgia, noting the bloc was expected to discuss granting Georgia its membership candidate status in October.

"They [the EU] will wait for December to see what legal amendments are adopted [in Georgia] to fulfill the 12-point conditions. The EU is expected to make an assessment in March and April, then in October there will be a decision-making period, there will be a summit, where expansion will be discussed.

“Our partners say that if Georgia misses the opportunity, the window will close for at least ten years”, Dekanoidze said.

Georgia was granted European perspective in June and 12-point conditions to receive the bloc’s membership candidate status.
