A member of the United National Movement opposition party, Roman Gotsiridze, told Front News on Friday that the results of the party leadership race would be obvious after its completion, as well as whether the move would strengthen the party or not.
The party head in parliament, Khatia Dekanoidze, said earlier this week that the elections, proposed by severalUNM members, were expected in late December.
Incumbent chair Nika Melia had slammed the party members for “unexpected briefing” over the “need of elections'' in early November, while the fellow member of the party, Levan Khabeishvili, announced his plans to run for the post along with Melia.
The ruling party responded that some of the UNM members were “unhappy” with Melia’s “indifference” over the issue of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili.
