Georgia’s state security service announces arrest of IS supporters

The Georgian state security service on Wednesday announced the arrest of six Georgian citizens reportedly connected with the Islamic State terrorist organization. 

 

The agency said the detainees had contacts with an IS leader and planned terrorist activities in several countries under his leadership. 

 

“The symbols of the terrorist organization, devices carrying electronic information, ammunition, explosive substances and various evidence important for the investigation were seized," the body noted. 

 

GSSS on May 6 also released information about the arrest of a foreign citizen in Georgia, who had ties to a terrorist organization.
