PM claims his Office’s “peace policy” leading to Georgia’s “unification”

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday claimed his government’s “peace policy” on the background of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict was leading to the country’s “reunification”.

In his press comments at the European Political Community Summit in Moldova, Garibashvili highlighted the importance of his office’s stance to “maintain and strengthen” peace in the country to “protect citizens”, amid the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia and the lack of membership of the EU or NATO.

In his remarks, the official also hailed Georgia’s role as an “impartial peace mediator” between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and noted Tbilisi was able in 2021 to broker the “first successful mediation” between the two states following their 2020 conflict over the disputed Nagorno- Karabakh region.

He said peace in the South Caucasus region was in “common interests”.
