Armenia not Russia’s ally in war against Ukraine - Pashinyan

Nikol Pashinyan, the Armenian prime minister, said on Friday his country was not Russia’s ally in its war against Ukraine, adding he was “concerned” about this conflict.

"It was never said out loud, but I think it is clear: we are not Russia's ally in the war with Ukraine. This war causes anxiety because it directly affects all our relations," Pashinyan said.

He noted Yerevan was vulnerable because it was not an ally of either Russia or Ukraine in the war.

"In the West, they point out more that we are allies of Russia, but in Russia they see that we are not their allies in the war with Ukraine. It turns out that we are not allies of anyone in this situation, which means that we are vulnerable," Pashinyan said, adding “Armenia has many concerns of its own”.

"Unfortunately, we have a lot of concerns, which does not allow us to get more involved in solving other problems," the PM said.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Yerevan has taken a neutral position in the war, although it has announced its readiness to accept Ukrainian refugees.
