Russia responsible for Kakhovka dam explosion - White House

The Write House on Wednesday said Russia was responsible for the explosion of the Kakhovka dam on Ukraine’s occupied territory, as Moscow was exercising control on it, spokesperson  Karine Jean-Pierre said.

The official said the US was still collecting information about what happened, “but in any case, the responsibility lies with Russia, whose troops should not be on the territory of Ukraine”

"This dam was under Russian control and they are responsible for the destruction caused by this war. We will do everything to support the people of Ukraine in this difficult time", she said.

Jean-Pierre highlighted the incident would be unlikely, if Russia had not launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year.

Several deaths following the flooding have been reported, with Kyiv saying Russia mined and then exploded the dam. Russia rejects allegations and shifts responsibility onto Kyiv.
