Two confirmed dead after landslides, flood hit western Georgian regions

Two individuals have been confirmed dead, reportedly minors, after heavy rains, floods and landslides hit Georgia’s Guria and Adjara regions in the country’s west on Thursday and early on Friday.

One individual is still missing, the Georgian Interior Ministry said.

Landslides and flood had swept away several houses, uprooted trees and “severely damaged” infrastructure in the Guria region, with the units of the country’s Interior Ministry and heavy hardware involved in rescue and cleaning efforts, the body noted.

The Georgian Prime Minister and visiting EU High Commissioner Josep Borrell on Friday expressed their condolences to the families of those killed during the disaster.
