EU’s Borrell: Georgia’s elections “test” of its commitment to European future

If the law on foreign influence comes into force, it will affect Georgia's path to joining the European Union, wrote Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on social media.

"The law on foreign influence does not correspond to the values of the European Union. If the law comes into force, it will affect Georgia's path to EU accession.

We will consider the EU's response and make a decision at the Foreign Affairs Council in June.

The October elections will be a test of Georgia's commitment to its future in the European Union," he said.

The Georgian Parliament passed the law in its final reading this month, before being vetoed by the President.

The ruling party is set to override the veto later today amid mass protests in the capital city.
