Maia Sandu - The oligarchic system, corruption, has taken over the country and we were no longer a success story and case

"It is a great honor for me to be here and to talk about the aspirations of our countries to the European Union, to talk about our partnership that we are able to build together and develop within the Eastern Partnership" - Moldovan President Maia Sandu told at a conference in Batumi.

"I would like to go back to the beginning of the Eastern Partnership and remind friends that at that time, my country - Moldova, was considered a successful country in the Eastern Partnership and there were high hopes that the country and the EU institutions would form a democratic system for the benefit of the citizens, however, soon the soap bubble that was created in the banking systems in our country and it was followed by other crises, unfortunately, all this, the oligarchic system, corruption, swept the country and soon, the citizens of my country and Brussels realized that we were no longer successful. Story and case: Reforms left on paper, discussion of democracy and anti-corruption efforts only in reports, Moldova already lacks key issues important on EU integration path Moldova has lost its reputation for using the opportunity to associate with frequencies and without punishment or sanctions. We were no longer a trusted partner, we were no longer considered a country that was fulfilling its obligations.

Changes have taken place over the last year as a result of the presidential election and then the people have chosen true democracy, democratic governance and very strong support from the people based on this election. This is already signed and promoted by the European Union. Because we have so much support on this EU agenda, the new government, the new majority in Parliament is obliged to deliver on its promises quickly. We face challenges to overcome those challenges. We need to restore public confidence in our state institutions, and we need to reassure people that the state exists and works for them, to consolidate strong institutions, to start with what bothers people the most. We need to cleanse the system of corrupt judges and public officials, and that is our effort in the future. Until now, working on schemes with private financial interests in mind, this should be a thing of the past. We need to do more and talk less. There must be a stable majority and a functioning government in order to make significant progress. Let's convince Moldovans that the future can be created both at home and in the EU. "We have hope for the EU in the future" - said Maia Sandu.
