Vakhtang Gomelauri - The Battle of Shindisi in 2008 was one of the special battles, I bow down before these heroes

Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri and Head of the State Security Service Grigol Liluashvili, together with their deputies, arrived in the village of Shindisi in the Shida Kartli region and laid a wreath at the graves of 17 heroes killed during the August 2008 war.

"August 2008 was really hard for the whole of Georgia, for the citizens of Georgia. It was hard for this region, for Gori, for the surrounding villages and for the missing two hundred villagers, for our citizens who left their ancestral homes and became refugees. Civilians were killed and it was our heroes who sacrificed themselves for the territorial integrity of our country.

The Battle of Shindisi was one of the special battles. It’s really hard to talk about it when you listen to it, watch the movie. What these guys did - they sacrificed themselves for their country, it's not easy to do, and these guys, these men, these heroes really wrote a new story - a heroic story. Thank you very much and I really bow down before these heroes" - Vakhtang Gomelauri said.

13 years have passed since the battle of Shindisi. On August 11, 2008, 17 Georgian soldiers were killed in a clash with Russian troops.
