130 employees of Tbilisi City Hall oppose suspension of EU membership process

Around 130 employees of Tbilisi City Hall have publicly distanced themselves from the decision by the ruling party, Georgian Dream, to suspend the process of Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

In a statement, the city hall employees expressed their opposition, stating that the government’s decision contradicts the goals set forth by the people of Georgia.

“We, the employees of Tbilisi Municipality, clearly and unequivocally declare that we dissociate ourselves from the decision to suspend Georgia’s EU membership process until 2028, along with all the reasons behind it,” the statement reads.

They emphasize that the decision does not align with the goal declared by the Georgian population, as outlined in Article 78 of the Constitution, which calls for Georgia’s European integration.

“We have been, are, and will remain loyal to our citizens, the Constitution, and the European values and course chosen by Georgia. Within our scope of work, we continue to support the development of our country into a European state,” the statement concludes.
