Fifty-five pro-Russian political and public organizations in Georgia united in the United Patriots Front of Georgia have appealed to the United Nations (UN) Security Council for them to make an “effective measure” for political neutrality of Georgia and Ukraine, claiming that the countries’ opposing Russia is ‘devastating.’
The translation of the letter has been released by the leader of the Alliance of Patriots, Irma Inashvili.
“We note with concern that over the past 20 years, the West has promoted the creation of political forces, NGOs and the media outlets in the post-Soviet space which have completely neglected neutrality and propagated only NATO as the only effective system of international security.
“Moreover, they were creating a false expectation of NATO membership and convincing the public that a partnership with NATO is in itself a guarantee of security. However, a different opinion is still being bullied,” the statement said.
Its authors believe that confrontation with Russia is disastrous for countries like Georgia and Ukraine, and they do not want “Georgia, Ukraine, or any other country to be in the role of chess pieces that will be destroyed in a wrestling match between superpowers.”
Earlier, prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the organizations wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin and said that the majority of Georgians do not wish the country’s NATO membership, while the majority of Georgians support the country’s membership to NATO and the EU.
