Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Georgia, addressed a briefing today, urging all parties involved in the elections, media outlets, and monitoring organizations, both local and international, “not to disseminate incorrect, unverified, or baseless information”.
Kalandarishvili stressed the spread of disinformation “undermines the pre-election environment” and stressed the actions and performance of commission employees should be assessed based on their actual work, rather than on “fabricated or manipulatively created circumstances that could damage the institution’s reputation and the electoral process”.
The Chairman also noted that if there were any attempts to illegally process personal information about election administration employees, the personal data protection inspector would investigate and inform international partners.
“We will take all necessary measures to protect the legal interests of our employees,” Kalandarishvili assured.
Georgia’s Parliamentary Elections are scheduled on October 26.
