Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has warned that Russia may resort to using nuclear weapons if its “patience runs out.” In a statement shared on social media, Medvedev criticized Western leaders and their political establishments for underestimating Russia’s potential response to missile strikes on its territory.
“They [the West] think: Russians talk a lot about responding with weapons of mass destruction, but they do nothing. It’s just ‘verbal intervention.’ Russians won’t cross the line; they are only trying to scare us. Nuclear conflict won’t benefit them; they could lose more, including support from the Global South. And anyway, who needs an apocalypse?” Medvedev wrote.
He clarified that while no decision has yet been made to use nuclear weapons—either tactical or strategic—Russia has exercised restraint.
“Russia shows patience, as a nuclear response is an extremely difficult decision with irreversible consequences. However, the arrogant Anglo-Saxon elites refuse to admit one thing: all patience has its limits,” he added.
