The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it had “liquidated” Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a recent airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee shared the claim in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that the strike targeted Hezbollah’s central command, which was reportedly located beneath a residential building. According to Adraee, the operation was based on precise intelligence from the military’s intelligence agency and aimed at disrupting Hezbollah’s coordination of attacks against Israel.
In addition to Nasrallah, the airstrike reportedly killed Ali Karki, the leader of Hezbollah’s southern front, along with several other senior Hezbollah commanders.
Hezbollah has yet to issue a statement regarding these claims.
The airstrike comes amid escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with Israel intensifying strikes on Lebanon since Monday. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, over 700 people have been killed, with nearly 2,200 injured and more than 77,000 displaced from southern and eastern Lebanon. The overall death toll in Lebanon since the outbreak of hostilities last October stands at 1,540.
