Georgia has expelled 42 foreign nationals from the country as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, authorities have confirmed.
The group, which includes citizens of Turkmenistan, Iraq, Turkey, India, Iran, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Russia, Jordan, and Pakistan, was removed last month under Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
While some individuals left voluntarily, others were forcibly deported by officers from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Ministry said that some of those expelled had been involved in what it described as “anti-social activities” in Georgia.
The Migration Department is responsible for tackling illegal immigration, including identifying foreign nationals who are residing in the country without the necessary legal documentation. A statement from the Ministry emphasized the department is actively working to ensure that Georgia’s immigration laws are enforced.
