Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has accused the US Embassy in Georgia of interfering in the country’s internal political debates and spreading disinformation.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Papuashvili criticized a series of informational cards released by the embassy, describing them as misleading and manipulative.
“First and foremost, the embassy should not allow itself to intervene in the country’s internal political debates. Unfortunately, this is exactly what the US Embassy has been doing, especially with their so-called card series, which has now crossed into the realm of humor, while at the same time being disinformative and false,” Papuashvili said.
He further stated that the US Embassy has become a source of disinformation through these cards.
“Each card that was published contained disinformation and manipulation. We, including me, have often urged the representatives of various embassies and donors to be cautious and not to fund organizations that spread disinformation. Unfortunately, with these cards, the US Embassy itself has become a spreader of disinformation. There were, if I’m not mistaken, three cards, and all three were either disinformative or manipulative, which clearly goes against our shared democratic values,” Papuashvili added.
