UNM leader Ugulava suggests Salome Zourabichvili as opposition Prime Minister candidate

Gigi Ugulava, one of the leaders of the United National Movement, has proposed that President Salome Zourabichvili be named as the candidate for Prime Minister by the opposition. According to Ugulava, selecting a Prime Ministerial candidate before the elections is crucial to avoid disagreements after the results are announced.

“For three days, I’ve been listening to colleagues from our party and others, and there’s been no clear talk of individuals. We don’t know who is being considered. This game of hide-and-seek is unacceptable. We can’t just pull a Prime Minister out of a drawer and say, ‘Here’s your Prime Minister.’ Everything must be transparent,” Ugulava said during an interview on Formula TV.

He emphasized that only one person currently has the political momentum to unite the opposition forces—Salome Zourabichvili. In Ugulava’s view, she has the political strength to lead the opposition to victory and unite the four main political forces in Georgia.

“My personal opinion is that Salome Zourabichvili should be the candidate for Prime Minister. On the evening of election day, when the four main opposition parties declare victory, Zourabichvili should stand alongside the new majority of 80 MPs, or however many, and announce that ‘Georgian Dream’ is defeated, the Georgian opposition has won, and the European path has triumphed,” Ugulava stated.
