The upcoming elections in Georgia will be a decisive moment for the country’s democratic development and geopolitical trajectory, David McAllister, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, said this week.
In his remarks, McAllister emphasized the significance of the October 26 general elections for Georgia’s future, noting that the outcome will influence not only democratic progress but also the country’s ability to retain its EU candidate status.
“The upcoming elections in Georgia will be decisive in determining future democratic development and geopolitical choices, as well as whether the country will be able to maintain its EU candidate status. So there’s a lot at stake. I believe that Georgia still has a chance for a democratic future,” said McAllister.
The statement comes amid heightened international attention on Georgia, as the country prepares for elections seen as critical in shaping its path towards European integration.
