The United States has announced a new $400 million military aid package for Ukraine as the country continues its war with Russia. The decision was revealed on Monday by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, according to Ukrainian media reports.
Austin, who arrived in Kyiv this morning by train from Poland, reiterated America’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend its sovereignty. “We will continue to stand by Ukraine,” he stated, highlighting the United States’ ongoing military assistance to the country.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US has provided over $55 billion in military support, according to Pentagon data. This marks Austin’s fourth visit to Ukraine during the conflict, underlining Washington’s sustained backing of Kyiv’s resistance efforts.
The announcement comes as the United States approaches its presidential election on November 5, 2024, where Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump will compete for the White House.
