Opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze sharply criticized the government’s recent actions, calling them “brazen” and a clear sign of an anti-Western agenda, aimed at steering Georgia back into authoritarian rule. Speaking to Front News, Gotsiridze accused the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party of attempting to establish a dictatorial regime and serving Russian interests.
“This is a brazen move by the authorities on the eve of the elections, another display of their anti-Western course and desire to return the country to authoritarian governance. They want to create an authoritarian regime that practically serves Russia. Neither the Georgian people nor our international partners will tolerate this,” Gotsiridze stated.
His comments came in response to a series of raids conducted on October 24 by the Ministry of Finance’s investigative service. The raids targeted several locations across Tbilisi, including the offices of the American company Concentrix Georgia in Vake Plaza, as well as the homes of Atlantic Council employees and citizens in Kutaisi. The investigation is reportedly related to so-called “call centers,” although no further details have been confirmed.
Gotsiridze stressed that the government’s actions are also meant as a message to Russia ahead of the upcoming elections, implying that the authorities will not tolerate any opposition, particularly from companies that have been compliant with Georgian laws, as noted by the Economy Minister.
