Georgian PM: No diplomatic ties with Russia as 20% of Georgia remains occupied

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that Georgia currently has no diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, citing Russia’s occupation of 20% of Georgian territory.

Kobakhidze emphasized that communication with Russia is maintained through two specific channels, primarily focused on humanitarian issues, trade, and economic matters.

“If someone can demonstrate that any transparency law or other measure contradicts legal principles or European values, we are open to re-evaluating relevant decisions. However, for this, a sincere discussion is essential,” Kobakhidze noted, underscoring Georgia’s commitment to its principles while remaining open to dialogue within a framework of transparency and respect for European standards.
