PM claims President refuses to testify against alleged election fraud due to “lack of evidence”

In an interview with POSTV, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed President Salome Zourabichvili’s refusal to testify before the prosecutor’s office regarding allegations of election fraud, asserting that her silence indicates a lack of substantial evidence to support her claims.

Kobakhidze argued that Zourabichvili is evading the investigation due to her inability to present factual evidence. “There have been baseless accusations with no foundation. When you go to the prosecutor’s office, you need to discuss facts. Since she has nothing to contribute to the evidence, she is certainly avoiding going to the prosecutor’s office,” he explained.

The Prime Minister further criticized Zourabichvili and the radical opposition for their reliance on statements from Washington and Brussels as absolute truth, likening their approach to a religious doctrine. “The U.S. State Department has urged her to cooperate with the investigation and provide testimony, but she has refused because she would feel embarrassed to appear before the prosecutor without any facts or evidence. Therefore, her avoidance is a necessity; she does not want to create a reputational problem through cooperation,” Kobakhidze added.
