The Georgian national football team hosted Ukraine in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League tournament, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
Georgia started strong, narrowly missing the lead as Budu Zivzivadze and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s attempts were denied. However, Ukraine struck first when, in the 7th minute, a deflection off Saba Kvirkvelia from Mykhailo Mudryk’s cross resulted in an own goal.
The first half concluded with Ukraine in the lead. In the second half, Georgia’s coach Willy Sagnol made an early substitution, bringing Zuriko Davitashvili on for Giorgi Chakvetadze. Davitashvili nearly equalized immediately with a pass from Kvaratskhelia but missed the target.
A controversial moment arose in the 66th minute when Kochorashvili collided with a Ukrainian defender in the penalty area, but the English referee declined to award a penalty.
Georgia finally equalized in the 76th minute. Following a cross from Otar Kakabadze, Kochorashvili’s shot was saved, but Mikautadze capitalized on the rebound, leveling the score at 1-1.
The group’s fate will be decided in the final round on November 19, as Georgia faces the Czech Republic away.
