The European Commission has announced that a technical mission will visit Georgia in the coming weeks to investigate alleged violations during the October 26 parliamentary elections.
“Preparations are underway. Further details about the mission will be revealed at an appropriate time,” stated Peter Stano, the European Commission’s spokesperson for foreign affairs, in a written response to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Additionally, Stano noted that the head of the OSCE/ODIHR election observation mission will present a report to EU member states, evaluating the handling of complaints regarding electoral violations.
The decision to send a technical mission to Georgia was first mentioned on November 18 by Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
