Opposition leaders in Georgia are calling for mass participation in a “critical demonstration” outside the Parliament building on November 25, framing it as a “pivotal moment” in their protest against the election results.
Zurab Japaridze, leader of the Coalition for Changes, emphasized the importance of the rally, urging citizens to demonstrate their commitment to European values and rejection of a perceived “Russian choice.”
“Tomorrow is fundamentally important. Everyone who cares about the fate of this country should come out. It is important for the West to see that people in this country are not used to accepting betrayal of European ideals,” Japaridze stated, noting that demonstrators will convene at 7 a.m. outside Parliament.
Nika Melia, also of the Coalition for Changes, highlighted the alleged illegitimacy of the elections, describing the parliament as “the heir to the 11th army, which trampled the sovereignty of the Georgian state.”
He called for ongoing resistance, asserting that the international community does not recognize the election results.
Tina Bokuchava, leader of the Unity – National Movement, invoked the symbolism of the Rose Revolution’s 21st anniversary, arguing that the current government lacks legitimacy. “Ivanishvili is left alone and will remain so until he makes the only right decision: to call new elections,” Bokuchava declared. She hailed the Rose Revolution as a turning point that brought Georgia closer to Europe.
Elene Khoshtaria, another leader of the Coalition for Changes, underlined the opposition’s strategy to disrupt the government. “The paralyzing of the city is one direction that we implemented quite unexpectedly. Georgian Dream is isolated, and their gathering does not mean forming a government,” she said.
The opposition plans to maintain their presence at various locations throughout November 24, culminating in their 7 a.m. protest outside Parliament on November 25, aimed at pressuring the government for new elections.
