Lithuanian Parliament Deputy Speaker urges Georgians to defend freedom amid political crisis

Žygimantas Pavilionis, Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament and Chairman of the European Affairs Committee, issued a passionate statement on social media addressing the people of Georgia during ongoing protests. Pavilionis framed the current political struggle in Georgia as a decisive moment for the country’s future.

“Georgian people, this is your last stand. If you defend your freedom and European choice today, you will save your tomorrow within the transatlantic West. If you are afraid to fight today, it will be the end of independent Georgia tomorrow and the beginning of a very Russian past,” Pavilionis wrote on X, accompanied by Lithuanian and Georgian flags.

The statement comes amid escalating tensions following the Georgian government’s controversial decision to delay EU accession negotiations until 2028. The move has drawn significant backlash both domestically and internationally, with critics accusing the ruling Georgian Dream party of steering the country away from its European aspirations.
