The US Embassy has continued its brief message campaign in response to the Georgian government’s recent actions, including the suspension of the European integration process until 2028.
The embassy’s latest comment came on Tuesday, following Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s statement about a “serious literacy problem” in Georgia, which he made in the context of the ongoing protests sparked by the government’s decision.
The embassy responded with the phrase “leadership with dignity?”.
This message is part of a broader series of brief statements the embassy has been posting on social media over the past few days.
On Monday the embassy shared a post on its Facebook page reading: “Everything is clear,” followed by another appeal on December 3: “Don’t blame others.” These messages have been accompanied by the hashtag #everythingisunderstandable.
The embassy’s remarks come in the wake of the US suspending its strategic partnership with Georgia on November 30. The suspension followed the Georgian government’s decision to delay the initiation of European Union accession negotiations until at least 2028.
Additionally, the Georgian government’s response to the protests, which have involved the use of force against demonstrators, has drawn sharp criticism from both the US and other international bodies.
For six consecutive nights, protests have taken place in front of the Georgian Parliament building in Tbilisi.
Protesters are calling for the resignation of the Georgian government, citing Prime Minister Kobakhidze’s comments on November 28, which many saw as undermining Georgia’s European aspirations. The demonstrators are also demanding new elections.
