Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has dismissed attempts to position President Salome Zourabichvili as a leader of the radical opposition, labeling such efforts as doomed to fail. In an interview with a Hungarian political YouTube channel, Kobakhidze addressed ongoing political tensions and Zourabichvili’s impending departure from office.
“Salome Zourabichvili’s term as president ends on December 29. Any attempt to turn her into a radical opposition leader is absolutely destined to fail,” Kobakhidze stated.
Kobakhidze emphasized that Zourabichvili, who was born into an emigrant family in France and served as France’s ambassador to Georgia before becoming the country’s foreign minister in 2004, has limited capacity to act against state interests.
“Though she is no longer a French citizen, her background as a diplomat and politician is well-known. While some may attempt to paint her as a leader of the radical opposition, it is important to note that her term is coming to an end, and she lacks the ability to act against the state’s interests,” the Prime Minister said.
